Extruder technology
Extruder or extrusion technology is used, among other things, to break down nutrients. During the extrusion of lignified, hard-to-digest straw, the wax layer protecting the stalks, as well as their firm fibre structure, is broken open. This is achieved using heat, moisture and pressure. This process in turn allows the horse to better digest the constituents bound to the crude fibre. The risk of impaction is also lower with processed straw.
