Potassium
Potassium is present in body cells as charged particles (ions) in solution. It regulates the pressure conditions within the cells. When nerve and muscle cells are stimulated, potassium activates the enzymes.
A horse (warmblood) requires around 15 to 17 grams of potassium daily for maintenance requirements, which is sufficiently present in normal feed. During peak performance, however, the horse must be given additional potassium, as it is excreted through sweat. An oversupply of potassium is harmless.
