Digestibility describes the percentage of a nutrient that is broken down and absorbed by the body (digestion). The digestibility of a nutrient can be deduced by comparing the amount of the nutrient in the feed with the amount excreted again in the faeces. Technical processing of feed products can increase the digestibility of the nutrients they contain, for example through the hydrothermal processing of grain or through extrusion.
