Overview C
Collagen hydrolysate
The food and nutritional supplement collagen hydrolysate is obtained from collagen. Collagen is insoluble. However, if treated with acids or bases, gelatine can be extracted, which can bind water and is soluble. If the collagen is treated enzymatically, collagen hydrolysate is produced, which can be fed in processed form to support cartilage formation, regeneration, etc. The amino acid composition corresponds to that of collagen and therefore contains exceptionally high levels of glycine, proline and hydroxyproline.
