Overview C
Chlorine
Chlorine or chloride (ions) and sodium, which are ingested as sodium chloride (table salt), are valuable electrolytes. They have important functions for the communication of body cells and are essential for regulating the water balance and acid-base balance of the cells. As they are lost through sweat, the requirement for both elements increases accordingly during physical exertion. In addition to green fodder, salt licks and loose salt help to ensure an adequate supply.
