Overview M
Maize
Maize is rich in energy and starch (available more slowly) and low in protein. Maize contains approximately 60% starch and is therefore richer in energy than oats with approximately 40 to 45% and barley with approximately 50%. The feed protein content is over 15 percent lower than that of oats.
In the form of hydrothermally treated flakes, maize is considerably faster and more completely digestible in the small intestine than untreated/crushed maize.
