Molasses
Molasses is a by-product of sugar production. It contains valuable minerals, trace elements and proteins that were extracted from the sugar beet and are no longer present in the end product, sugar.
Calcium, sodium, iron, magnesium and potassium are particularly important. Molasses also binds dusty feed particles and is palatable. Due to the residual sugar it still contains, feeds containing molasses are not suitable for horses prone to laminitis or with metabolic disorders.
